The Campfire Blanket
Beyond providing warmth and comfort, a Scouting member's campfire
blanket is a record of events and activities right through from
Beavers to Rovers to adult leaders. Crests and badges of all
types are sewn on it (non-Scouting too). Crests are acquired
by earning, buying & trading. The blanket can be worn as
a cape or as a poncho or however you like. You can buy the official
blanket at Scout Shop, or use a blanket you already have. Check
if the material is fire retardant. Note that natural fibers
won't melt & stick. Choose a colour that won't show dirt, and
remember that solid backgrounds will display the crests better.
He/she may still have this blanket ten, twenty...thirty years
from now, whether involved in Scouting or not, so make certain
it is warm and durable.
