Volunteering
and Team Building Opportunity: Storm Drain
Marking Challenge
The Langley Environmental
Partners Society (LEPS) is holding its annual Storm Drain Marking
Challenge in the month of July, and is looking for teams and individuals
to accept the Challenge to win prizes!
The Challenge consists of going out
into your community with kits and maps (provided by LEPS), and marking
storm drains by painting yellow fish on the pavement above the drains.
This can be an excellent bonding activity for troops and packs and
colonies. Not only are you getting involved in your community, but
you are bringing awareness to the fact that ALL storm drains lead
to fish habitat, which results in a big help to the salmon population
and the environment.
At the end of July,
after recording, on the map, which drains you have marked you bring
the maps back to LEPS to win prizes! The more drains you mark and
the more you get your community involved and the more you get the
message out there the more chances of winning prizes you get!
To all that are interested, team or
individual, please contact me as soon as possible to get registered
and get your kits and maps.
Thanks so much.

Bob Wiebe |

Jean Wiebe called me tonight
(June 20) with the news that Bob Wiebe's memorial will be held
in the Fort Langley Community Hall at 6:00 pm on Monday July
5. The later than usual time is to help make it easier for
people to get there after work. They do recognize that there will
always be people who can't make it on any given day. Jean did
request that Scouters come in uniform. The mood is to be a "big
open house and send-off" so bring along photos, memorabilia, and
Bob stories to share.
In typical Bob fashion, he had discussed this scenario with Jean
against the remote possibility that it could happen.
Jean has learned enough of the details to be sure that this tragedy
was the result of a pure accident -- no lack of preparation, no
oversight, no mistake, just an accident. Knowing Bob, how would
it be otherwise? But it was good to have that confirmed.
Jean can be reached at jean.krysie@gmail.com

Wildlife
Week: April 10 at Brookswood Park
Ever wonder what creatures visit your
backyard at night? Langley is teeming with wildlife – over 264 species
of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians share our municipality
with us, finding food and shelter right under our noses.
Join Langley Environmental Partners
Society to celebrate National Wildlife Week in Brookswood Park on
April 10. This family-friendly event runs from 10:00-2:00, and includes
bird of prey flight demonstrations by Raptor Ranch at 11:00 and
1:00, coyote pelts and skulls with the Stanley Park Ecology Society,
nature walks at 10:00 and 12:00, aquatic insect discovery, salmon
games and much more.
Brookswood Park is located at 200th
street and 40th avenue in Langley.
For more information, contact Liz Kendler at 604.532.3520 or lkendler@tol.bc.ca
or www.leps.bc.ca.
Because of the presence of live raptors, visitors
are asked to leave their dogs at home.
Thank you, Liz Kendler, B.A., B.Ed.
